  • When you create and design jewelry pieces with ICE Resin® do you always reach for a bezel? I know I find myself reaching for them most of the time. But sometimes it can be a lot of fun to think outside of the box and see what you can design without a bezel. In the tutorial today, I will share how to layer some papers, images and a bit of sparkle along with ICE Resin® to create a beautiful butterfly necklace that will be perfect to wear this spring or summer.

Step 1: For the different layers of the necklace cut a small piece of the pink paper from the ICE Resin® Luminous Layers, a small piece of paper with script on it from the ICE Resin® Tissue Paper Assortment, and a couple images from the ICE Resin® Ephemera Images. Fussy cut the butterfly and the word dream.

Step 2: Next, apply the ICE Resin® Paper Sealer with a small brush to the image of the butterfly, the word dream, and the vintage millinery flowers. Using the ICE Resin® Studio Sheets will protect the work surface and pieces with resin can easily be removed from the studio sheets.

Step 3: Mix ICE Resin® according to instructions. Let it sit for about five minutes and then it will be ready to apply to the papers.

Step 4: The ICE Resin® Squeegee is a great tool for applying the ICE Resin® to the paper. Apply an even coat to the front and back of the tissue paper and luminous layers. Next, place the tissue paper on top of the luminous layers. Use the squeegee to smooth out the papers and make sure there’s no air bubbles in between the layers of paper. Then, add the butterfly image and the word dream on top of the papers and add another layer of ICE Resin®.

Step 5: Add a little bit of ICE Resin® German Glass Glitter Shards, Primrose and ICE Resin® Opals, Crystal Opal on top of the images. But don’t add too much so you can still see the tissue paper and luminous layers. Sprinkle some of the ICED Enamels® Relique Glitz, Silver on the flowers. I find when I dip my finger in the Glitz and then rub my fingers together I can apply a very tiny amount.

Step 6: Once the ICE Resin® has cured, peel the papers off of the Studio Sheet and trim it down to the desired size. Use a metal hole punch tool to punch a hole in each of the top corners.

Step 7: Use Ranger Glossy Accents to adhere the rhinestone chain around the outer sides of the image.

Step 8: Then add the flowers and a few flat back pearls.

Step 9: To finish off the focal piece use Ranger Multi Medium Matte to adhere a few pieces of lace to the backside.

Step 10: To finish the necklace, add a couple of silver jump rings to the top of the resin piece. Then connect the pearl rosary chain to each side of the resin piece and add a lobster clasp for a closure.

Here is a close up of the finished necklace. I love the beautiful butterfly image and all of the shimmer and sparkle.

For an extra little soft touch I added a tiny pink silk bow to the pearl rosary chain.

I hope you enjoyed today’s tutorial. Think outside of the box or in this case outside of the bezel and see what you can create.
