2018 has been dubbed The Year of Purple. Well if you want to be technical it would really be Ultra Violet. Being a February baby I have always been partial to Amethyst and Valentine’s Day. When I was young Valentine’s Day hopes would make my heart skip a beat. Will I get a card in my aluminum foil covered box? I am so in love with the holiday I even got married on February 14th. “Tell me I’m the only one” the 80’s song says. This is my tribute to Amethyst and February 14th.
Step 1: I wanted to create height in my bezel that surface tension would not allow. So I used a Milan bezel and Sculpy clay to make a “pattern”. Take the clay and position it in the bezel until you get the desired shape. Bake clay according to package instructions.
Step 2: Then use Ice Resin molding putty and create mold. Once mold is set, mix ICE Resin® according to instructions and be sure not to incorporate too many bubbles.
Step 3: Next take Ice Resin Amethyst Tint and mix a few drops in resin until you get a shade you like. Fill mold and allow to dry overnight. The next day pop heart from mold and trim away any drips.
Step 4: Use Ice Resin Milan bezel template and cut out Ice Resin foil sheet to fit in the bottom of the bezel. This will give the heart a nice shine from underneath. Mix a batch of Ice Resin and apply a small amount to adhere foil. Position heart inside of bezel and, if needed, tap with a rubber mallet to securely place.
Step 5: Use a paintbrush and “paint” a coat of Ice Resin over heart. This serves two purposes. It coats the heart for a nice shine and adds stability. All there is left to do is add a chain with beads and you have a wonderful tribute to the most romantic time of the year.
